THE CONTIN LIFE OF A CONTAINER - TOTALLY MODERN AND DIFFERENT
SHIPPING CONTAINER HOME
The design of this house is inspired in the idea of reusing shipping containers that have traveled all over the world and will now make a home in the mountains of Guatemala city at Carretera El Salvador, allowing a family to begin their own journey. The home is a low cost, eco-friendly and interesting project to build. The extra tough boxes can be stacked like Lego blocks and customized with warm comfortable details.
"THE HOUSE WAS BUILT WITH A LONG TERM VISION TO ADAPT ITSELF TO THE NECCESITIES OF A YOUNG FAMILY WHOSE REQUERIMENTS CHANGE WITH TIME."- JUAN OLIVERO
This project includes more than 300 square meters. The main axis of this project was the sustainability through the design, recycling and the integration of the house into the lot. The containers are arranged in a fan form to take advantage of the sunrise and sunset keeping the comfortable temperature of the home. This modern home has been constructed using Type 1A 40´ HC shipping containers. It was built with four shipping containers. Each units is constructed from two forty feet long containers and two 45 feet long.
Inspired by a LOW TECH architecture that is characterized due to reusing machinery, materials and elements during the construction process. The materials used to keep and protect the main concept were steel, concrete, wood, foil, glass and decorative pebble stone. The majority of the materials were recycled.
The shipping containers give shape to the second story in the house, bringing to life the bedrooms. They are visible in all bedrooms, leaving their structure to be admired. The interior design was thought to provide family integration activities, which is why the spaces are open, well light and allow an easy flow movement within the different social and family areas.
